Groves & Grounds Operations Manager

We are looking for a commercially astute Operations Manager with a strong agricultural background, a genuine passion for farming and growing, and proven people management skills to lead our Waiheke Island based Groves & Grounds team.
As the Olive Groves and Grounds Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the husbandry, productivity, and quality of our 7000 olive trees for optimal harvesting & yield outcomes.
Along with managing all aspects of the groves, this role will be responsible for ensuring our grounds and gardens are maintained and presented to an exceptional standard. We have seven properties, four of which are high- end accommodation.
Key duties & responsibilities will include:
Oversee and manage all aspects of olive grove & grounds operations, including planting, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and harvesting.
Ensure the health and vitality of olive trees through regular monitoring, disease prevention, and implementing best agricultural husbandry practices.
Optimize yield and quality of olive production through careful/thorough planning and efficient resource utilization.
Lead a team providing guidance, training, and supervision to ensure a cohesive and productive working environment.
Collaborate with other areas to streamline operations, implement new technologies, and enhance overall business efficiency at acceptable cost.
Develop and maintain budgets, financial reports, and performance metrics related to olive grove management.
Champion best practise Health and Safety behaviour for yourself and your team.
Strong technical knowledge of commercial growing practices, crop management and harvesting delivered with sustainable agriculture methods.
A commercial mindset with the capacity to consistently optimize available resources for maximum productivity.
Leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team, always with an eye to accurately establishing and delivering on priorities.
Excellent communication and organizational skills, with supervision and mentoring to the fore.
A capacity to manage costs within a budget whilst achieving outcomes, within both groves and grounds, that consistently meet high standards.
Willingness and a skill set to operate as each unique season dictates, thereby flexing effectively and promptly with the fluctuations of environmental and weather patterns (weekend work required during harvest).
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field.
5+ years’ experience in agricultural management – grove, orchard, or vineyard.
