Communications Manager
Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand
Marketing Communications (Marketing & Communications)
Those in power are enabling continued environmental destruction and are not acting urgently enough to detect or halt this. Poor decision-making repeatedly undermines our laws – decisions are often made on the basis of flawed science and/or a poor understanding of what the law requires.
The Environmental Law Initiative (ELI) uses litigation to hold those in power to account so that our laws function to protect the natural environment.
The newly created role of Communications Manager will play an important role in holding those in power to account. The role is currently full-time, but part-time appointments will also be considered. The role will have responsibility for the organisation's communications and engagement function and will be based at ELI’s offices in Wellington.
The successful applicant will bring fresh and creative ideas to engage ELI with its audiences, and will lead ELI into the next phase of its organisational communications.
The successful applicant will demonstrate the essential requirements of the position description, including:
A willingness to fight for a better environmental future for Aotearoa New Zealand
A minimum of 5 years of communications and engagement experience
Experience of communicating complex subject matter as part of advocacy or campaign activity
Experience of managing a range of communications channels, including newsletter, web, and social media
Experience of working with experts to identify and tell stories across a range of media
Experience of writing press releases and pitching stories to media
Knowledge and experience of the law and/or environmental issues
Knowledge and experience of non-government communications
This is a unique role for an experienced communications professional who wants to make a positive difference to the environment of Aotearoa New Zealand. In return, you will be provided with a stimulating and supportive working environment and the opportunity to work across a multitude of exciting litigation and advocacy projects.
The salary for this role will be $120,000 per annum, for a full-time position.
