Catchment Advisor

Hawke's Bay Regional Council is seeking two passionate and skilled Catchment Advisors to join our team. We have two exciting opportunities available within the Integrated Catchment Management Group, one based in Napier and the other in Waipawa.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

Promote sustainable land management practices and initiatives in the region.

Engage with landowners, communities, and stakeholders to facilitate and deliver solutions to environmental issues.

Provide expert advice and support to individuals and groups on improving farm practices for better catchment, economic, environmental, and social outcomes.

Implement programs to address catchment-specific land and soil issues.

Contribute to the Council's efforts in continuous improvement and building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

As a Catchment Advisor, you will work closely with the Catchment Operations team and report to the Catchment Management Lead – South or Central. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills in sustainable land management and make a difference in the Hawke's Bay region.

About you | E pā ana ki a koe:

To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications, experience, and attributes:

A relevant Bachelor's degree or equivalent tertiary qualification in environmental science, agriculture, or a related field.

Experience in sustainable land management, catchment management, or a similar role in a relevant industry.

Strong knowledge of soil erosion processes, mitigation strategies, and the sources and pathways of sediment, nutrient, and bacterial contamination from farming systems.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including landowners, community groups, and internal teams.

As a Catchment Advisor, you should be committed to continuous learning, teamwork, and adhering to health and safety procedures. You should also be adaptable and open to performing other duties as assigned to support the Council's goals and objectives. If you are passionate about sustainable land management and want to contribute to the protection and enhancement of the Hawke's Bay region's environment, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding position.
