Counsellor

Work as part of our multidisciplinary team. Provide grief & loss counselling

About the mahi Our Family Support team provide holistic care to our patients, families and whānau in the community and in our in-patient units. We are now looking for a qualified Counsellor to join our North ShoreFamily Support team in a permanent position. In this role, you will collaborate as part of the multidisciplinary team and support patients and whānau with grief and bereavement counselling either in one on one, or group sessions. Specific tasks include:
Receive referrals and assess the psychosocial needs of patients and whānau
Be alongside family/whānau/friends as they sit with their loved one at end of life or for symptom management
Provide face to face counselling services drawing on evidence-based practice such as narrative therapy
Play an active role in the multidisciplinary team, communicating cases clearly and contributing to patient management
Work with colleagues and external agencies to provide best support for family/whānau
Please note this is a three day a week postilion and ideally, you will be available to work Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
About you | M ōhou ake You have experience in palliative care and/or grief and loss counselling and a genuine interest in and affinity with the work of hospice. We’re looking for a special type of person who has the life skills and professional counselling experience to provide compassionate counselling services to patients and whānau. You will talk with them about the issues they are facing and how to deal with the multitude of emotions, thoughts and feelings they are going through.
You will demonstrate:
A degree or post graduate qualification in counselling
Current annualpracticing certificate fromNew Zealand Association of Counsellors or New Zealand Christian CounsellorsAssociation
A willingness and openness to learning about and work with different cultures and perspectives including Te Ao Māori
A collaborative and motivated approach to working in teams
A natural curiosity and keenness to innovate and try new things
About us | Ko mātou tēnei Harbour Hospice is one of the largest hospices in Aotearoa and has been caring for tūroro (patients) and their family and whānau for 40 years. Every day we care for close to 400 people across the North Shore, Hibiscus Coast and Warkworth/Wellsford regions, supporting them at home, in one of our two inpatient units, or in community programmes offered at each of our three sites.
