Your role as Assistant Retail Manager will give you a strong sense of purpose as you help connect the community with the care hospice provides. You’ll contribute to raising a third of Harbour Hospice’s annual funding needs. You’ll enjoy an extremely busy and varied day and be able to inject your personality into all you do. You’ll work with volunteers who freely give their time and energy, which will make for some very special and unique relationships. Best of all, you’ll join an organisation where your work matters.
Mō te tūnga | About the role The Assistant Retail Manager role in our Hospice shop in Whangaparaoa is not for the faint hearted! It's physical, it’s busy, and it’s full on. But you’re not on you own as you'll have the support of your manager and a wonderful team of fantastic volunteers to help you.
As Assistant Retail Manager, you'll support the Manager with the overall running of the shop and ensure a fantastic customer experience for donors, customers and volunteers alike. You'll get involved in everything that's required in running a successful pre-loved fashion and homewares store. From sorting to merchandising, to delegating, completing timesheets and cashing up, and ensuring the volunteers are having a break and a cuppa.
This is a permanent role working 2 days (14 hours) a week on Friday and Saturday.
He kōrero mōu| About you We’re looking for someone who lives and breathes great customer service. Ideally you have a background in retail but most importantly, we want someone who builds relationships with people from all walks of life in a collaborative, open and positive way. You will:
Lead by example, get stuck in and take the initiative.
Be confident making decisions.
Demonstrate the ability to motivate and lead a team of dedicated volunteers.
Be highly organised, a multitasker and be able to split your attention working at pace in a busy environment.
Be naturally inquisitive. Able to identify brands and items of value using your own knowledge, social media and the internet.
Have visual merchandising experience.
You’ll also have flexibility to change your hours on the odd occasion, to cover leave and to provide extra support as needed.

Harbour Hospice is one of the largest hospices in Aotearoa and has been caring for tūroro (patients) and their family and whānau for more than 40 years. Every day we care for close to 400 people across the North Shore, Hibiscus Coast and Warkworth/Wellsford regions, supporting them at home, in one of our two inpatient units, or in community programmes offered at each of our three sites. Our specialist services, given free of charge, include medical care, spiritual, cultural, psychological and social support, physiotherapy, occupational and complementary therapy, social activities and more.
