Corteva Agriscience is looking to hire a Research Laboratory Technician for our Waireka Research Center at Omata, just outside of New Plymouth. Corteva Agriscience is a world leader in protecting and preserving our food and helping agricultural communities thrive. Waireka Research Center is a globally recognized research facility that conducts field research to evaluate and develop new crop protection and plant health products.
About the role
This is a hands-on role where you will be part of a dedicated research team by providing laboratory support to the research center. In this role you will have sole responsibility for the operation of a small laboratory as well as providing support for various greenhouse and field-based crop protection and plant health trials.
Your primary areas of responsibility will include:
Generating plant disease inoculum for use in field trials
Collecting, identifying and isolating plant pathogens for storage and future use in crop protection disease trials
Maintaining a plant fungal pathogen library
Laboratory management including equipment maintenance, chemical inventory and maintaining consumable stocks
All general activities associated with a small laboratory, including adherence to Corteva and New Zealand laboratory standards
In conjunction with field scientists, conduct various greenhouse studies including crop protection experiments with fungicides, insecticides, herbicides and plant health products
Providing support to field research scientists including field trial assessments and data recording
Adherence to strong Environment, Health and Safety standards

Qualifications
As a successful candidate you will have:
A BSc in microbiology, biological sciences or plant pathology disciplines
Minimum of two year's experience in general laboratory aseptic techniques. Plant pathology experience is an advantage
Excellent record keeping skills as well as basic computer skills including use of Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel
A strong Environmental, Health and Safety ethic and the ability to follow established safety operating procedures, policies and guidelines
A passion for working with plants
A current driver's license
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a small team environment
This is a full time role of 37.5 hours/week however a part time offer may be considered for the right person.
