HRSC and Archives are part of Defence Human Resources (DHR). We are a ‘one stop shop’ for all customers to have their HR administration and payroll needs met. Our team is also responsible for holding NZDF’s personnel archives and records and producing service medals and awards. We focus on the delivery of our services by putting our people in the center of everything we do and respecting the different traditions and aspirations of our three services (Navy, Army & Air Force) and their staff. This is achieved through continuous improvement, flexibility, collaboration and teamwork.
As the Director HR Service Centre and Archives (HRSC & Archives), your role will involve ensuring the HRSC & Archives operations deliver effective and efficient practices, systems and processes that ensure the provision of value-adding services to meet evolving customer and organisation needs.
You’ll be continually engaged in leading and inspiring staff in the performance of their duties and responsibilities, while focusing on continuous improvement and actively contributing to the overall NZDF operational targets as well as the daily business decisions.
Key focus areas in this role are:
Change leadership and planning.
Management and accountability.
Service optimisation and reporting.
Developing solutions and integrating technology.
This role is based in Trentham, Upper Hutt, and reports to the Assistant Chief of Defence HR based in Defence House, Wellington CBD. Travel and working within the wider Wellington Region will be required.

We’re looking for an experienced and trusted people leader with an outstanding customer focussed ethos to join a busy and dedicated group of people in the HRSC. You will actively share your considerable industry experience and best practice ideas to help drive leading quality-orientated service to the NZDF.
You will bring experience and demonstrable skills in leading a service driven transactional team/s in a complex or HR service centre environment. Ideally you will have an understanding of SAP HCM (and Payroll) functionality and customer facing tools (ESS/MSS) or equivalent corporate ERP systems.
Key skills and experience we’re looking for includes:
Strong management experience and a track record in building successful teams.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with data driven approach to decision making.
Refined negotiation, interpersonal and communications skills.
The ability to effectively align customer service delivery requirements in complex organisations.
Significant experience in the implementation of measurable service improvements.
